Andy uses time-honored methods of instruction with his students. These classical singing techniques are very effective in helping students sing any genre of music of their choice. Andy believes that learning proper vocal technique is the key to building an exciting singing voice. Practicing vocal exercises allows students to access their full vocal range, develop a beautiful tone, sing with power, sing in tune, while maintaining a healthy voice.
Students begin lessons by singing scales. Think of singing scales as going to the ‘gym for the voice’.
Learning to sing scales correctly is the quickest way to better singing. Proper breathing, for example, is extremely important. The scales are recorded so students can practice at home between lessons.
After scales, the student sings a song, accompanied by Andy at the piano. The student chooses the song, or Andy selects a song from his extensive library. Then Andy helps the student find the best key for their particular singing voice. Andy and the student work together to understand important aspects of singing, like vowel sounds, how to phrase the lyric and the melody, how to sing softer and louder, and how to use rhythm to make a song interesting. Students will work with more challenging scales and songs as the lessons progress.
Lessons are $85 for 50 minutes.
